Since 2011, American businessman Timothy Donald Cook, who was born on November 1, 1960, has served as Apple Inc.'s chief executive officer. Cook previously held the position of chief operating officer under Steve Jobs, the company's co-founder.


In March 1998, Cook started working for Apple in the position of senior vice president for worldwide operations. He went on to become executive vice president for worldwide sales and operations after that. On August 24, 2011, he was appointed chief executive, prior to his death in October of the same year. During his time as CEO, he has advocated for environmental protection, cybersecurity, American manufacturing, and political reform of domestic and international surveillance. Cook took over Apple in 2011, and between then and 2020, he has increased the company's market value from $348 billion to $1.9 trillion by doubling its revenue and profit.


In 2014, Cook became the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to publicly disclose that he was gay. Cook also sits on the boards of Nike, Inc. and the National Football Foundation; He has been appointed a trustee at Duke University, his alma mater. Outside of Apple, Cook gives back to the community. He declared in March 2015 that he would donate his wealth to charity.
